Timing mark question?

Postby eveready » Sat Mar 30, 2013 7:40 pm

On the flywheel do you line up the marks on the -F- or the 1 ?

I replace timing belts and don't have much power now, I used the marks on the 1. I don't know if power problem is timing or carbs.

I thought that there was a T-1 and an F-1 mark. T-1 is timing mark,F-1 is firing mark. I believe the T-1 mark is for the cam pulleys like when changing belts.

Your right and I do have my timing right then so my power problem isn't the timing. Back to the carbs. thanks

Check compression before you pull the carbs easier and may ID your issues.

Well that screwed my day. Did compression check #1 - 115, #2 - 95, #3 - 100, #4 - 100. No signs of blown head gaskets. Smokes a little on 2&4 when cold. Plugs seem to be burning good. I don't have a srew in compression gauge to do a leak down test. any suggestions?

Checked valve adj. when I changed the belts all the intakes were .003 instead of .004.

I feel real dumb now. I rechecked compression with throttle open this time and comp. is 165 -170 on all 4 cyl. So my next question is, when I took carb off to clean I found that the vaccum advance hose was not there. I replaced hose and it does not change the engine running at all. How much vaccum should there be at the carb.? And how do I check the vaccum advance?
