Rebuild Carburators on a GL110 1983

Postby truckerdude » Thu Apr 08, 2010 12:35 am

Hello,

I was just given a 1983 GL1100 Aspencade. The previous owner has informed me that the #2 Carb needs to be rebuilt as it "pops" when cold and on low idle. It also appears to not be feeding fuel to #2 cylinder as well. I am more than willing to tackle this project, but would really like to find a good description (ie step by step) of the process. I have looked at a couple of the other posts, and if there is anything similar to those available, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Ian

I suggest you check out randakks.com first. Then join nakedgoldwings.com. There are some very good threads there with pictures.
The main thing I have found is after cleaning all the passages and jets and you think they're clean. Clean it again. The same goes for reassembly and bench synch. Measure the float heights get it right, then measure again. The same goes for the throttle synch.

There's a tutorial on nakedgoldwings.com (I'm sure that's where I saw it) that is in my humble opinion the best out there. Lots of pictures and it goes in detail, start to finish, what to do and look for. Do a bit of searching and I'm sure you'll find it. I'd post a link now but I'm a bit short on time right now. Sorry. Good luck!

I agree with k1w1t1m (no idea what that stands for!) :) - Randakk's is my site of choice for carb information. He has kits and videos online, a little pricey, but then, you get what you pay for.

Change the "1"s to "i"s. A Kiwi is the national bird of New Zealand and is also slang for a New Zealander, which I am.
