Radiator fan control switch

Post by bykerbiker » Fri Apr 12, 2013 1:36 pm

Hi guys , I've just renewed my water pump and whilst radiator removed decided to renew the thermostat and the rad fan control switch [ an expensive item] when it came it had a o ring installed but it looked not very big , I'm wondering before I box up will this o'ring be enough for the job. Maybe I'm being over cautious . Also on checking the timing belts they seemed to be in good condition , what are the indications of wear ? I know what to look for on "v" belts is it similar for Timing belts.
Big thanks to admin for his How to on waterpump change don't think I would have attempted it without graphic and detailed description :D

unlike "v" belts, the only way to know if a timing belt is bad is when it breaks. if you're unsure or in doubt i would suggest changing them. if you could post pics of the orings in question you'll have a better chance of getting a good answer.

I think if you are in doubt, change them...Here is a really good post to assist you in changing them over at the NGW site .http://ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3544

1980 GL1100 43,395 My new girlfriend "Oldie"

Hello fellow wingnuts, I just did my timing belts, water pump, thermo fan switch, hoses ect. I am a 62 y.o. wing nu bey. I bought a '80 1100 nice clean old girl 42,395 mi this winter I was nervous to buy cause she hadn't been licensed sense 06, the po had put three battries in her in 6+ years- running her up to temp weekly.he got too old to ride her but still loved the old girl. after reading this form I was able to accomplish these repairs with no problems. thanks to you all. thought i would post some part #'s and prices for you who are still thinking about doing these necessary repairs, 1- thermo fan sw is a Altrim 143-5055 with napa #235 @ $18.88. fan on @216deg f- off@195 deg f. 2- radiator hoses=1 napa hose# 7733 @$13.88. you just cut this hose to make both, when you try to put them on it is a bitch with the springs on, but if you use a little plumbers grease on the inside of the hose each end, it is a piece of cake -don't throw those springs away. 3- timing belts napa #250274 @ $26.33 ea. 4- thermostat napa #287 @$5.59 Well hope this saves you all some time researching part #'s I'll be back and thanks to all twisp-jd (Twisp Wa.)
