1100 hose question

Postby tunaboy » Tue Apr 16, 2013 1:23 pm

I am in the process of doing all the usual maintenance on my 1100. One item is to drop the radiator in order to make the belt swap easier, replace hoses etc. I have the aftermarket car replacement hose that is recommended. I am always reading how to articles. I saw one where 2 people said that when they used the car replacement hose they had leakage problems that they never had with the OEM hoses. One even said that he found new upper and lower OEM hoses ($75) and never had a leak again. The question that I have is obvious, if you changed your hoses with the car hose have you had a leakage problem? I really do not want to look for new stock hoses @ $75/set.

I put a NAPA hose on my 82 Aspencade last fall and no leaks yet.

I have used the napa hose and cut it in half for both the upper and lower on the bike. Never had a leak.

napa hose# 7733 $13.88 cut in half.I used plumbers grease on the inside of the hose ends, as they are a bitch to put back on with the springs on and the stock clamps don't give you much wiggle room, made the job much easier.600+ miles no leaks yet. when you cut the hose you will think that it is too long and may want to trim about an inch off don't, I did and had to buy another hose. make the top and bottom hoses a little longer then the factory ones.

If you remove the outlet housing, and insert THAT into the hose, and then reinstall the housing, the hose swap is a breeze.
