neutral light

Postby s10hornet » Fri Apr 19, 2013 9:18 am

I'm having such great success on this forum with problem solving I thought I'd try another one.
Neutral light comes on when bike is in neutral, goes out when bike is in gear. this is good.
Neutral light comes on whenever the clutch is engaged. Not good.
Wiring appears to be correct. Any sugguestions?

Mostly likely dirty neutral switch at/in the engine..a PITA to get out and clean. Lower front right side of the engine right where the headers turn up you can see it..small rectangular cover, 4 screws. Some have had luck with running current through it.. and burning off the carbon build up while in place..search the forums for that info..I don't remember all the details.. some have "cleaned" by adding diesel or MMO to the oil running it for a bit EASY and that cleaned it off ..

This is caused by a failed neutral diode. It's located on the left side, underneath the false tank. Replace the diode, the problem will be solved.

Listen to Wingman. He is correct about the diode, there is nothing wrong with the neutral light switch
