aftermarket gauges

Postby washandy98664 » Sat Apr 20, 2013 5:15 am

I was wondering if I can put some aftermarket gauges on my 82 I when I put my new fairing on?
I also thought about the older gauges from a 76-79 wing.
Will they just wire up or is there a problem with the 7 volt for the temp and fuel??
Or can I use some others?
As usual thanks in advance for all the help.

i think it would depend on which guage you're looking to install. i put an aftermarket voltage guage on my 82 so yes, it can be done.
WHAT IS THE SPEED OF DARK?

Im sorry, I took it for granted that you knew the 75-79 were for the gl1000 and the 80-83 were for the gl1100. While it maybe possible to use the older model guages it is easier just to use the proper guages for the bike in question.
As a general rule 1000 parts fit all 1000s but not the 1100.
1100 parts fit most all of the 1100 models ( standard,Interstate and Aspencade) with few exceptions.
What is the problem with the guages on your bike now? damaged? missing? or just not working? 8-)

I am putting a batwing fairing on and will have to change gauges.
I was under the impression that the gauges from the 75-79 would still work on the 80-83.
I need to use a smaller type of round gauge to fit in the new fairing.
I guess I will just check for different voltages, amps, ohms etc, on other gauges to find some that will work for my application.
I am able to use the old speedo and tach, but not the gas and temp.

I am also looking to replace my Fuel and Temp Gauges.. Mine work but they are so small and faded out they are hard to see (especially at night) also I am trying to get all gauges mounted into the fairing to help clean up bike...
I have calls into Dakota Digital and hope maybe I can just change out sending units..
