Fork bottom bolt problems!

Postby mattx13 » Sat Apr 20, 2013 6:28 pm

My dad is trying to rebuild his forks on his '83 GL1100 Aspencade but the bolts in the bottom of the forks will not budge. The socket is stripped in one, and the other won't budge with both heat and an impact driver. Any suggestions?

If we don't figure something out by Monday, we're taking it to a local shop to see if they can get the bolts out.

This HAS to be finished by Friday because we are going on a camping trip.

Thanks,
Matt
(VTX1300 rider/ future 'Wing rider)

I'd have a shop remove them? Or just pick up a used set to rebuild.

Problem solved! We took them to a local custom shop and they had the bolts out and called dad back about an hour after we dropped them off. $45 for the job and a couple of new bolts.

Everything is ready to go back together, but he has to wait for an airline that he ordered to come in. He broke one of the airline fittings on one of the forks when he was taking it apart. :x
