HELP!!!! Front Brake Caliper Chrome Cover Installation

Postby bcstover » Sun Apr 21, 2013 3:50 pm

I have a 1981 Honda Goldwing. I got some Chrome Front Brake Caliper Covers for it. I can not figure out how the mounting bracket hooks up. Can anyone help me out. Pictures would be good. Thank You :D

Only covers I found (from Add-On) fit 83's, and 1200's.

They're aftermarket...so perhaps they require some custom brackets that weren't included?

I havent installed them yet but from what I gather there are some small screws that hold the large chrome cover to the mounting bracket. If you remove those screws you have two pieces. The smaller piece has two large holes that you mount to the caliper bolts , Mount that piece first then slide the big cover over the plate you just mounted and install the small screws.
Be aware there could be a left and right so take the screws out of both covers and use the appropriate L or R side.

I have seen another set of covers but the mounting brackets don't even match mine. Like there not the right ones. Here is more pics of mine. Going to work on it more this weekend to see if I can figure it out. The mounting brackets act like they are to small.

Sorry guys, but as I remember, the 1981 has still the one piston calipers.
The mounting sheet shows covers for a two piston caliper of a 1200. That may match to a 1100 1982/83.
In my opinion you need custom brackest to mount the shown covers on your bike, the are for a one piston caliper

My 81 has this type of cover, here is how they are mounted.....

Loosen Caliper mounting bolts

Slide tabs between bolts and caliper, tighten bolts

Line up mounting holes on mounting plate with cover and attach with tiny screws

I'm still working on my brakes so I did not attach the cover.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply...But I have the bike up for sale and not going to worry about it. We bought us a Newer Wing. If your interested in those covers send me a message and I will make you a good deal on them. They are in very good shape and no rust.
