Starter question

I seem to be going through starters, Im on my 3rd one since October of 09. Its a relatively easy ( or so it seems to me) job to accomplish and I can get it off and back in, in under 10 minutes now.

Is there anything that I could be overlooking while going through so many starters? The last two have just locked up on me. I have a no hassle warranty and the starters are sent to me but am I missing something?

The wiring is solid and doesnt short out. I replaced the dogbone fuse with a 30Amp slotted car fuse and protective weathering case.

Could engine sludge contribute to creating a defective starter? Im thinking of Seafoaming my crankcase twice this weekend with two oil changes as I have a lil over 80K miles and dont know the history of the bike.

Thoughts?

Can't hurt to seafoam the crankcase (I was totally disgusted by what came out of mine), but the first question to answer is; what is causing the starters to lock up? What part is failing?

The first one just ceased up wouldnt turn at all. The second one seems that the secondary gear (sprague gear???) failed, it just spun internally, but the cog did not.
