air/idle screw question
i know, daily carb question. does anyone know the answer? when the 82's rolled off the line from the factory, did all 4 idle screws have limiter caps? the reason i ask is that my #3 does not. it is slotted for a screw driver but when lightly seated sits up into the housing, making adjustment difficult. by difficult i mean i have to pull the carbs out, make adjustment, reinstall carb, repeat and it's becoming quite old. my other 3 carbs have the caps, i only have to fight with #3.

Re: air/idle screw question
Sounds like the limiter cap snapped off. This can happen when someone tries to remove it.
Here's a link to a idle screw assembly that should work. http://www.randakksblog.com/easy-source ... re-screws/
As for what was stock, I can't imagine that three had limiters and one did not.

Re: air/idle screw question
On my '80 I ground off the tab on the limiter so adjustments are easy. Mine are 2 turns out from the bottom, the factory spec was 1.5 turns. Bike idles good @ 1000rpm.

Re: air/idle screw question
thanks guys. my bike runs smooth, good idle, pulls strong all the way to redline like it should. however, it's only getting 26/28 mpg on the highway. as far as i can tell, nothing is binding/dragging, no hot breaks, wheels fully inflated and spin smooth. timing/valves are correct all 4 cyl fire. not overloaded. there is no over rich gas smell. this is not mine but looks similar.
