Timing GL 1100 wih belts off

# 2 and 4 side timing belt broke. With cylinder 1 on TDC, what should cylinder 2 be on in order to time correctly?

Check out the diy article here on changing the timing belts. Both marks on the cam sprockets HAVE to line up when #1 is TDC.Rotate the motor by hand ,only,to line up marks. After belts are on, SLOWLY rotate motor by hand stopping the instant you feel any resistance. If all is right you should be able to rotate the motor without any stoppage. check the valve clearences after you are done.
Was the motor damaged when the belts broke? Bent valves? These are interference motors, if the belts broke while the motor was runing you should check for bent valves.Broken belts can cause lots of damage. Regards, Johnyy

Might as well face it. If the belt broke while running there "will" be valve damage.
