Black carburetor slides?

Postby mytown » Sat May 04, 2013 6:51 pm

All the pics I've seen show the GL1100 carburetor slides as being silver, but all four of mine are black:

Any ideas as to what's going on and is it OK to use these?

Honda did a recall on the carb slides of some years. (sticking). When I had them replaced on my 83 they were coated with green Teflon.

Side note: They only replaced the pistons and not the caps as a "now widely reported" matched set ???

Randakk has an article on this and the Teflon wears off and the problem returns, his solution ..if I remember correctly was to file the edge of the slide or the housing so it didn't rub..I forget which it's on his site someplace.

HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE
