Help!

Postby myfirstgl » Tue May 07, 2013 9:52 pm

I have a funny whirring sound coming from my stator!(sounds like a dead bearing). The bike runs fine otherwise. I have 105 000 km's on the bike. Thanks for any advice.

I am not sure if the 1100 alternator has brushes, as stated, it could be the main bolt/nut in the middle of the alternator coming loose, or it could be worn brushes (If you have them) causing the noise. Either way, you need to remove the cover on the alternator and take a look.

RB are you talking about the bolt that's on the end of the crank at the stator area ? I think it's a 12 mm socket you need to tighten it, 17mm to remove the cover cap...

Don't discount that the starter drives that assembly and my 83 had a whine from sticking starter clutch rollers(15).
This area dosen't get much lube as it sets high in the engine.
A good treatment of Sea Foam cleared mine up....
There is also a mod of the stator housing to be able to access the rollers directly...It's posted here viewtopic.php?f=13&t=12909
Designed for a more direct cleaning...

No brushes - just a magnet spinning inside some stationary coils.
