goldwing gl1100 trike starting smoke.

hia folks can anyone tell me. when I start my trike up usually first time that day, I get a small cloud of smoke coming out of the left hand set of pipes.
its not there when its running and everything sounds fine,.I
only when it starts..

the most common cause would be old, wornout, cracked rubber valve seals. if the smoke stops after a few minutes it's really nothing to get too worked up about.

The Goldwing engine has the left hand pistons lubricated via oil ways in the connecting rods whilst the right hand cylinders do not. This could be a reason why the left hand bank smokes a little on start up as the residual oil will run into the left hand cylinders if the bike is left standing a while.
Most wing owners blame leaving the bike on its left hand prop stand causing the oil to run into the cylinders whilst standing but this cannot be the case with a trike! Mine does it on both stands.
if the smoke is not excessive and goes away after a little while I would not worry about it as its quite a common feature of these engines.
