Hi goose. Welcome to the site. There are a bunch of nice people on here willing to do a whole lot to help you out.

The link you posted wasn't very specific as to what switch you are referring to. I did search around in it and saw 2 switches, and I don't believe either one of those will work.

I am curious as to why you need to change the switch? Are the contacts shot? It may be salvageable. Have you tried Lock-Ease Graphite Lock Fluid? You may have to spray it four or five times and turn the key many times to clean out 30 years of dirt.

But you may find this article helpful...http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/2-g ... ncade.html

Keep us posted with your progress, and we all like pictures a lot here. Pics help us see what you are asking better.

Patbrandon1, Goose is my son. I traded my GL1100A to my younger brother last year and this weekend he gave it to Goose. We went to PA and picked it up. When i traded it to my brother, at times the ignition would come on by itself and turn the radio on. He (my brother) tried to work on the ignition and broke it. So he stripped it out and now you can turn it on with your finger and it's hanging out of the socket, so Goose is trying to replace it with a 'working' ignition.

so i just seen where there is another post on a different website(http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/2-g ... -need.html) says that a GL1200 ignition switch can be made to work. It has 7 wires but the 7th wire is not needed? any thoughts on this idea?

Hi goose
The ign.switch for the 1100a is longer than than the standard 1100 or the 1100i.The 1200 switch will work but you are correct in that has 7 wires. It is simply a matter of getting both switches side by side and moving the 1200 wires into the 1100 plug connector.take notice that wires in the 1200 plug are in a different order,ie,red could be top left on one and bottom right on the other. Move one wire at a time and you'll do fine. Also the 7th unused wire can be taped off, it's actually connected internally in the 1100a wiring harness. My conversion works fine. Good luck!

Thanks for the confirmation. Now the hunt begins for a 1200 ignition switch! Lol
