Harley rear shocks?

Postby IAAustin » Wed Jun 05, 2013 9:22 pm

I am wondering if anybody is running with Harley Davidson take off rear shocks on their Wings? I have an '82 GL1100 which I usually ride 2-up on, and have a trailer that I don't use too much at all. I can tell my original air shocks are getting warn from bottoming out when riding throught a corner and hitting a hole. I am working with a budget, or else I would go Progressive. I got some HD Sportster shocks for my Yamaha XJ750 for around $20 on eBay in near perfect shape and am hoping to score another similar deal for the Wing. Your opinions and advice are appreciated!!

Thanks for the link. Is that something fairly easy to do with basic tools? Also, asides getting new seals, what else may need replacement while in there?

It is very easy to do with just basic hand tools, messy but easy . Check the how to articles ,there should be some help there for you.
I just put in new seals, new fluid(15wt fork oil) and the new springs. There are new dampener cartridges available but I didn't bother with replacing mine and they work very well. . 8-)
