Seat Split

Post by aznyaz » Mon Jun 10, 2013 1:31 pm

Any thoughts on repairing a small split (about 1") in one of the seams on my seat? It's not an actual seam, just one of the fake ones in the diamond pattern of the seat.

Duct tape fixes everything...

Seriously though there are a few of those "as seen on TV" type items out there or a hook needle and heavy thread

My old one was split the same way. The PO used thread and tape. I finally got tired of it and had everything reupholstered. Now when it rains the foam doesn't soak up the water and I don't get wet two days later.

If you remove the seat cover and work from the underside..apply re-enforcment..tape or it back together if you sew it w/o re-enforcement the thread will likely pull out..dent floss works well as thread, then apply vinyl sealer on the keep water out and re-install the cover on the foam.

You might want to use marine thread - normal thread will break down within a year or two from UV - sunlight. Marine thread is UV resistant, and won't break down like regular thread. I bought some to use to fix some loose seams on the cover for my trailer, I think it came from Amazon.

Search "81 Goldwing seat cover" on Ebay, someone makes & sells new seat covers for just over $50. Choose from lots of colors, even camo!
