Re-Ring Requirements wanted

Postby cbach1981 » Sun Jun 16, 2013 8:16 pm

Hey all, I'm looking to do a ring job on my 83 Interstate and was wondering what I'm going to need to do this job. Have both Clymer and Honda service manuals, so I'm set there. Looking for what I will need as far as parts. Rings and gaskets obviously, but which gaskets? Full head gasket kit have what I need? or is there more that will be needed? Any help is appreciated!

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape!

About 3 years ago I rebuilt a 83 engine.
It took a $600 investment in materials.
You split the case so every gasket and "O" ring is replaced.
Very time consuming.Locate every part before you start and use OEM original parts only.
They are more expensive than the Korean aftermarket ones sold by saber cycle but actually fit.

AS VM said you'll need everything..OEM is the best way to go..but there have been many reports about Versa...something, gaskets sets about $130???..but head gasket should be OEM for sure..

NO personal experience with this yet.. 8-)
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,

Sounds about like what i was thinking. may just wait due to restrictions on my collection of pictures of dead presidents. just smokes a bit more than i want it to and mpg in the low 30's range. did compression test and they were all over the chart. thanks for the replies. and i know already of the online turd pile known as saber cycle. lol!

Valve clearance will also affect compression.
