Digital gas gauge

Postby jhbates2000 » Thu Jun 20, 2013 4:40 am

My 83 aspencade has the digital dash. Everything seems to be working except the gas gauge. Anybody got any tips on how to remedy this situation. I wasnt sure if there was a fuse I could check that is just for the gas gauge or not? Somebody help please

Check the fuse block under the shelter for a bad fuse. If good, check the wiring from the sender. I don't think I've ever seen a how-to on checking the sender, but I could be wrong.... I also have an '83 Aspy - I just hope I never have 'issues' with the one year only digital dash......
good luck and keep us posted...

The sender can be cleaned in equal parts muriatic acid and water with an old toothbrush. Remove the sender from the tank, take of the coil cover off and brush away the film on the coil assy, clean with fresh water and reinstall. This trick worked for me solve a false reading problem on my`82. And use a testlight to make sure there is power to the unit first.

Does that model have the 7v regulator? a little rectangular box with 3 wires that connect to the temp/fuel gauges? Or a regulator of some type thats OEM and is dying?

So I chased down the wires that lead to the float in the top of the gas tank and they were all ok. I removed the float assembly from the gas tank and the floatand float arm was just stuck. I sprayed down the float with some PB blaster to get it nice and loose and then I cleaned it with some carb cleaner. I re-installed the float and plugged back in the two wires leading to it an turned on the the key...gas gauge is working just fine now...
