trying to sync carbs

Postby goldminerusa » Tue Jun 25, 2013 12:08 pm

I'm in the garage trying to sync the carbs and getting these readings, #1- 12 to 16.5, #2- 15 to 20, #3 -14.5 to 19 and #4- 5 to 18. The pilot screws are at initial setting, 3 turns out; the timing is damn close; it`s idling at roughly 1000 rpm; engine at operating temp; carbs have been cleaned and rebuilt with new factory parts. Are these #`s close enough and what else is being indicated?

OK, i think i`ve got it figured out, the valves need to be adjusted first, then the pilot screws/idle then do the syncing, right?

Yup.And get the vacuum as close as possible.Buffer the vacuum line at the intake with a control valve to keep the needle from bouncing so much.
The closer to the same, the smoother it will idle and stop growling in the low rpm range.
Don't forget to idle it back down to around 850-900 .
We can usually get a sync within 1 inch of vacuum. It takes a bit of twiddling.
