Decision to make...Any thoughts??

Postby 80-GL100-INT » Fri Jun 28, 2013 11:20 pm

Been working on the faring tonight and plugged it up for the first time to see what was going on with it. To my great surprise everything is working perfectly, Radio, CB, lights...:!: Speakers even sound good.

I just don't know if I want to keep all this outdated equipment in here. I want to take out the weight of it all and update it with a new sound system...but I would kinda like to keep it all original.

I don't know that I will ever sell it, but if I would I will still have it on hand to re-install so it would have the original equipment with it. I'm a pack rat like that.

Any thoughts?...Outdated- wow all working original equipment 8-) ...Updated- wow that stereo sounds good 8-) .

I agree with you on keeping the old stuff. Putting in new stuff is a great idea as long as you don't have to modify the fairing to make it fit. That way you can go back to a totally stock system if you want or need to.

If it all works then use it!!!

If you take these antiques out and let them sit they will not function when you reinstall. I have gone through about 4 of these units. And do not know how many trips to Sierra to get the units to work again.

So if it works leave it alone.

How about getting a second fairing and setting it up the way you want with new equipment and keeping the original as is for a future time?, assuming you have a proper storage area-cool and dry.

That's actually a very good , See, that is why this is such a great forum ! I knew if I bounced it around here I would get some good feedback.

That kinda what I'm half afraid of I would like for it to continue to work. I have a 95% (- a tornado) safe place to store it all in climate control, so that will help lessen damage due to storage.

Well I started working on the faring the other day, lots of fun, big hands in tight spaces holding little nuts and washers . I also have realized I really need a better camera

I think I am going to go ahead for now and keep the original sound system and update it a little with one of these

A buddy of mine just got three of them and they work really well. At least till I can find another faring to customize.

If you are looking for another fairing, I have one from an 82 Interstate.
Have it complete with all wiring and frame, lowers , winshield, everything.
Was looking to get ....$150 plus shipping.
Not sure if thats what you may want.
It is the wineberry color.
