Did the cable get disconnected somehow? It is on the left side of the front wheel.

More than likely the mechanical speedo gear on the front axel/wheel failed. The pulse generator attaches to the gear to drive the digital speedo. The gear can still be purchased at part houses and is the same for all 1100's

More likely that the cable itself failed, it's a far more common failure item than the gear itself.

On the 83 1100a there is no cable, only a two lead wire. I had the same problem and when I removed the gear it had self destructed internally.

I had a hard time finding that cable when it went on mine. The little tab on the cable where it attaches to gear on the wheel snapped. It tooks me 6 months to find a replacement.
