oil leak

Postby petesgoldwing » Tue Jul 30, 2013 6:48 pm

I have a somewhat unusual problem to solve. I have oil leaking from the both valve covers on my 82 Asencade. I adjusted the vavles now I've tryed twice to stop small oil leak, even silicone sealer. :? Still leakes Any good input  would be of great help.

The valve cover seals don't last forever. If they're leaking, it's time to replace them with new ones.

Dot 3 brake fluid can be used too, I've used it for O-rings to swell them back up for a temp fix.

You didn't buy from Saber Cycle I hope.

On my GL1200 I had a problem where the rubber grommets on the 4 bolts were worn badly...
Replacing them cured the leak problem..It seems the covers could not be drawn tight correctly with the worn grommets (washers?)

Just offering another 2¢ to ponder...
