Hi Beam not working

Postby echinus1988 » Fri Aug 09, 2013 11:14 pm

Hi all,

I have a 1980 Goldwing. Been sitting a long time but it runs and I am working on getting things the rest of the way.

My low beam appears dim but my high beam doesn't work at all.

I took out the bulb and tested for continuity. I am assuming the center is ground, the sides are high and low beam. I have continuity between center and left, center and right.

I then tested the plug that the light plugs into. On low beam, I show 12V (a little more but I have a charger on it). When I switch to high beam, and change the plug to the other side, nothing, no voltage at all.

So I moved to the light switch (figured a good place since I don't have horns either!) There are three wires, Blue, White, Blue/White (This is obvious but I am going step by step hoping someone sees something that I am not). I connected to ground and then tested each wire. Blue/White to Ground 13.2V, White to Ground 13.2V, Blue to Ground .3V.

I am working on following the wires but I don't see anything wrong so it has to be something I am missing.

Thank you for any help in advance.

Steve

Hey Steve, b/w will be power to the hbar switch. You should have 12v going to the switch and then
12v to blue for hi beam and 12v to white on low beam. Hope this helps.

Brady
