1100 Spark plug problem

Postby The Wolf » Fri Aug 16, 2013 1:26 pm

just got this 1983 Goldwing to fire up after 13 years of being idle.. Cleaned carbs up changed oil water cleaned fuel tank new fuel filter air filter etc. #3 spark plug is getting all fouled up. Black carbon the others look good. Haven't checked compression yet have to get correct fitting. any suggestions would be helpful.
thanks

Chances are there is still a problem with the carbs. Carbon fouling means that cylinder is running rich. Float sticking or bad float valve.
Caution: Since the bike has been sitting for 13 years you need to replace the timing belts.

I should have waited 10 minutes-I found the answer in the DIY section. at least some good pictures of spark plugs etc. I decided to get the Carb rebuild kit-stripped the carbs and found more than one problem but waiting for the kit to finish up. Yeah I already replaced the timimg belts too. Tires look good but they are 19years old so got to replace them too.

Thanks for the input.
