Unidentified GL1100 part

Postby birkco » Thu Aug 22, 2013 4:02 pm

Have completed an overhaul of my GL1100 1981 and have a small part left over, I assume it is some form of clamp that i have missed as all else seems to be ok.

Can anyone assist in identifying this part, I have gone through the parts manual with no luck at identifiying it.

Attached two pics of offending part.

Many thanks

It looks familiar...but I can't place it. Front brake line clamp, perhaps? Perhaps if you told us what you worked on, it could narrow it down for us.

A friend of mine rebuilt his engine ( 1965 650 Triumph ) many years ago. After he installed it into the frame I placed a piston ring circlip on his bench for a laugh . You should have seen his face when he saw it , he convinced himself it was a "leftover" from the engine . I let him remove the motor from the frame before I told him where it came from ( rotten ain`t I ) .
Point is - are you certain it is a " leftover " part?
The only silly question is the one you don`t ask. Everything else is game.

David-Mantle - thank Heavens you are in Uk and I am in Zim - you rotter !! I get an empty feeling in the pit of my stomach just visualising your mate (ex mates) anguish!! but yes I am sure it came off the Old girl, I had a rubber fitting left over as well but located that, (62405-371-000 RUBBER, SHROUD MOUNT) one on each side, on top of the cooling fan shroud.

A friend of mine here who used to work on GL1000, back in the day, assures me it is not too important but like Wingadmin not sure where it goes.

I basically took out the engine to strip and O/H replace mains and big ends and have the cylinders re sleeved and put it back in again.
The piece looks fairly specific which is why I asked you Guru's.

Regards

I have overhauled a GL1100 engine twice and have no clue as to what the part can be. Are you sure you do not have a "friend" with a warped sense of humour?

since thee is no size to compare to ---my guess is the lower fairing brackets-down by the bottom of the radiator.

Not sure of that part myself - here is the lower side fairing mount. Similar profile round bolt but bracket different. Wish I could help more.
