1100 standard or 1100 Interstate

Post by Jimpalmer » Mon Sep 02, 2013 6:56 am

I recently acquired an 81' 1100 Goldwing. How do I go about determining if it is an interstate, Standard, or other?

You'll have to look at the actual van tag - not the registration.
My wife is the greatest - she won't let me sell my bike - I'm less grumpy when I ride...

Keep in mind that after 30 years anything can happen. People make Aspys and Interstates into naked standards or add stuff to standards. It may be a standard with Vetter fairings and boxes, or Hondaline stuff added at the dealer or sometime in its life.
If you like it, leave it and enjoy, if you don't, change it to what you like.
Post a picture and I know someone here will be able to give you more info.

Well thanks for all the input. This is what I figured out. It was born an 1100 standard in 81'. The following year the owner put a 82' faring, bags and trunk on it. Following owners accessorized with additional lights and lots of chrome. Someone followed up with a velour seat. The bike had 168k on it when I got it. The wife and I have put another 6k on it. For as old as it is, it runs out great and has gave us no problems......until Labor day weekend....fortunatly 10 miles from the house we had a flat on the rear. Gonna fig into that over the coming weekend. Thanks for all your input!!

If in doubt and the bike hasn't been repainted the stripes around the tank will tell you if it is a standard or other. The standard stripes follow the curvature of the front of the tank. The I or Aspy will have the stripes run diagonally ( \ ) down the tank to follow the line of the fairing.
