good morning everyone:

i was looking at the speed sensor this morning, thinking if i lightly tapped on it with a small wrench it might loosen a clump of dirt or something that might have gotten in the way of the sensor to hub view, but when i did that, the entire sensor hub moved slightly back and forth. is this normal? then i took the bike out for a ride to see if it made any difference and now my speed readout goes only between 0 to 3mph and no higher than that even when my tac display shows the motor at 3900rpm in 4th gear. im at a loss as to what is causing this situation. can anybody help me figure this out before i go riding and wind up with a speeding ticket?

thanks,

hi rbgerson: thanks for the reply.

well, the hub moves about 1/4" in each direction, and another thing i just realized, while riding the bike, my odometer only moved about 2 tenths of a mile during a 30 mile ride, and my trip meter only moved the same amount, it was at 0.04 when i started, and showed 0.06 by the time i returned home. im going to remove the 3 phillips screws that hold the speed sensor cover on and see whats inside. it could be that some dirt got into it somehow and is messing up the readings, but, i dont understand why that would affect the mechanical odometer and the LED trip meter. i'll think about a broken gear bad contact or a broken wire once i get it back together and if it still gives me any problems. if i cant get it fixed myself, or at least firgure out whats wrong with it, i'll take it to the honda dealer on tuesday and let them take a look at it.

ok, i removed the cap on the speed sensor thats on the lower left fork, whats inside looks like a micro-processer with a gel coating over it.....everything looks intact, nothing burned, no wires broken off........rgberson, if you noticed what i said in my first posting about this, i DO have a speedometer readout, its not accruate, but its still showing something as is my tripmeter. the sensor is functioning, but now i think i have to look into the hub section, it could be as you said, broken if its not supposed to move at all. ive gone as far as im going with this by myself. im going to take it to the honda dealer and ask someone that knows what this thing is all about.

thanks for your thoughts about this. if anyone else can come up with any ideas that might be helpfull, please reply back.

thanks,

stuart, a.k.a. roadwanderer2.
