Pulse Generator gl1100A

Postby Dale Landan » Sun Sep 15, 2013 3:08 pm

On my pulse generator vacuum advance doesn't seem quite correct in the way the rotor seat below the pick ups. Both index pins one on both ends of the shaft are indexed correctly yet when the advance unit is installed and the nut tightened the rotor is recessed toward the engine and sits lower than the pick ups. I have tried two different pulse generators one off a "frozen up engine" the other is of its replacement. This one was removed for inspection and lube before the new engine was to be installed engine. This is my first Goldwing and also my "learning tree" (lots of frustrations) Any one have an idea with what I may be doing wrong?

No, it does not look like your picture. The bolt that goes into the shaft sits father in. (in reference looking from the back side of the engine forward, it is sunken to the point that the rotor meaning the part that rotates between the black pickups which have a metal piece installed and the end of the rotor do not align. I have tried two (2) different shafts with the o'rings inserted into the engine side and both alignment pins connect with both parts but the vacuum plate still sits below the pick ups. Per your pictures and my Honda factory manual they are installed correctly. The problem is the same, using either of the two shafts and inter changing the pulse generator housing's. Both shafts are the same length and clocking pins are located per measurement in the same spots. This is one I have not been able to fix. If one were to think that by pulling the shaft more toward the rear of the case it would not solve the problem because the most forward pin would not mate with the collar which is notched for the pin on the o'ring side.

On the second picture what and where are the numbered parts 12 and thirteen? 12 is I surmise is o'rings, but what function does 13 sefve I don't recal such a piece in either of the shafts, How ever I will take a closer look to see if they are in either shaft. Luckey I have not installed the engine yet.

13 is the vacuum line (vacuum assisted advance) and 12 are wire clamps for the line.
