Check/replace the speedo cable.

My '99 is bouncing slightly at lower speeds and I suspect my cable is sticky or stuffed.

I've had the problem in the past on both bikes and in cars, replacing the cable fixed it in each case.

I had one car where the speedo needle jumped a couple of times then just dropped to zero and didn't move, that one turned out to be the little gears in the speedo head.

I've also replaced the little drive mechanism on the gearbox end of car speedo cables a few times when I worked in car mechanical workshops years ago too.

May just need good cleaning..take the bottom end off pull the cable out clean it off with a solvent. Remove the top nut spray some cleaner down the cable tube..run the cable up and down and spray tube again..let it drain/dry lube the inner cable with silicone? or 3 in 1 oil, or graphite or chain oil or ??? put it back in and reconnect.

I had the same problem last year, I went to my mechanic who turned out to be a giant crook. He told me the speedo was out and sold me one for $80. Had the same problem with that one. He then told me it was the speedo drive from the front tire. Replaced that, it went away for a little bit. Shot some aero-kroil down the cable when it came back or just hit the face of the speedo while riding to stop it. evenually just replaced the cable and it hasnt made a noise since. Youre better off just spending the $20 on a new cable and being done with it than having to spray it every other week
