Thrown Rod

Well...the unthinkable happened. I was careful as humanly possible. always checking the oil before I rode so just about daily it worked out to be. synced the carbs and had it running great...then I'm doing 70 on the freeway and BAM! whap whap whap whap...oil and coolant spraying everywhere. hole in the block the size of Montana. here's the thing though....in looking, I am seeing the left and right side heads, lower and upper engine....what should I replace? the carbs were JUST rebuilt. and the hole is location almost in the center of the block under the carb setup. thoughts? suggestions? I love this bike and would HATE to have to scrap it. 1983 Goldwing Aspencade.

I would be looking for a replacement engine. Will be a lot cheaper. Drain the carbs
and they'll be ok.

hen you say replacement engine, I'm assuming you mean the engine motor bottom end? I found what I think I need here on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1983-HONDA-GOLD ... 0f&vxp=mtr

what do you think? I mean my heads look fine, and the carb unit looks fine so I'm hoping that this is all I really need. Thoughts?

Oh my,,I don't hear of this very often I hope mine doesn't do that one day,,,what do we do to prevent this kinda thing from happening? :shock:

GW, that's about what you are needing. The rust in the cylinder doesn't look too good and if you get
it make sure to clean it well. You might look further and find a complete engine.

littlebeaver, the wing engines doesn't do this often. Probably a case of not changing oil or running
low on oil. It would be interesting to see what actually happened. Could be rod big end, piston
and or wrist pin?
