Goldwing GL1100 Valve stem oil seals

Postby washandy98664 » Sat Oct 26, 2013 11:28 pm

Looking at the posts for this, I am wondering if you do all the valves or just the exhaust or intake??
This is not listed as to what is done.
Thanks in advance.

Last time I did a "head job " - clean valves and check springs - I changed ALL the valve stem oil seals.
Just my way of doing things - hope it helps.
The only silly question is the one you don`t ask. Everything else is game.

Do them. It can be done without removing the cylinder head thus saving gasket costs by using a special valve spring compressor available on Ebay.
There is a thread on this website on how to do it and its a simple procedure.

I just bought a compressor that allows for seal replacement without removing head thus saving on head gaskets.

Just a thought - hope it helps.

You can also feed some soft, thick rope into the cylinder through the plug hole, then gently rotate the engine to use the piston to push the rope up against the valves. This will keep them in place so that you can replace the seals.
