1981 GL 1100 Choke Shaft Felts???

Postby N2PPN » Mon May 03, 2010 7:41 pm

Anyone have a good source for replacement felt gaskets for the choke shafts on their GL 1100's???

I know they are a little bit of a pain to gain access to (you have to remove the butterfly's before removing the shaft) but mine are shot and the end play of the choke shafts and the amount of light that can be seen through the sides of the carbs is making me want to change them out before I finish up my carb rebuild project...

If I manage to find a source before anyone responds with one, I will post it back here...

I know this was talked about in the GL1000 forum in this thread. I don't recall if they found a source for them or not - you might want to ask.

I've read that thread, it dealt with THROTTLE shafts, not choke shafts....

I have E-mailed Randall at Randakk's and I agree with him, the amount of unfiltered air that enters through the CHOKE shaft ends is insignificant and will not affect air/fuel mixture as it is BEFORE metering of fuel or the throttle plate, so other than a source of "grime" on the outside of your carb, the choke shaft seals are not a vital item to be rebuilt.....

Felt seals on the chock shaft, hadn't heard. But my first thought was to buy the felt feet for the bottom of chairs so they don't scratch the floor, and cut to fit the application. The local Dollar store comes to mind.

'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!
