machine gun sound ..

Postby s_lapid » Sat Nov 30, 2013 3:47 am

Hello all
I have a a new (to me..) problem and I need some advice.
Lately, the bike (1980 gl 1100 intersate )rides well, idles nicely and pulls OK, but while revving it up the bike does not make the nice smooth sound I am used to hear while accelerating. It sounds a bit like a machine gun .. at first I noticed these sounds between 2000-3000 RPM but now it seems to be even while revving up from 900-1000 ..all the way up..
Any ideas what may be the cause ?
Thaxx

yes. I had.. a few months ago. but I can check again.
this not backfire. more like quick pak-pak-pak :) maybe a bit like a harley davidson sound from the exhaust pipes
I will try to record the sound and upload an mp3 audio file (if it's possible).

Check for an exhaust leak.

I agree with Sagebrush. If it more like a popping sound probably an exhaust leak. Could be exhaust gasket or a hole in the pipe. Check that first before going too far.
