That may be a bit heavy for winter weather.
Oil does not circulate well when it's thick as molasses.
The initial starting of the bike becomes a chore and very sluggish...
Also,it's prone to excessive engine wear at the moment it fires up,with poor oil circulation....
If you could keep the engine warmed (heated garage) it's not a problem.
Make the bike think it's summer time year round. :D
I run 20-50 in the southern heat...Louisiana
I ran 10-30 in the winter up north....

I agree with virgilmobile. 20/50 is too heavy to run. In Ontario with only a few weeks of very warm weather, I would run 10/40. If you have trouble with your starter engaging in cold weather reduce to 10/30. I have run 10/40 in my 1100 for the 20 years I have owned it and have had no issues. Once in a while when it gets close to freezing the starter won't engage first try, but only when close to freezing temps. If you have that issue more frequently do a flush with Seafoam run it through for a while and then change the oil. That should clean out the starter clutch and improve the starter engagement.
