CB unit removal

Postby NKYWinger » Mon Dec 30, 2013 2:52 pm

Help! I need to take the CB unit out to have Sierra Electronics repair it. I have the unit loose (on the right hand side), but the three wiring harnesses go thru the front of the fairing to the left hand side (according to the factory diagrams) to connectors.
How in the HELL do I get to the ends of the cables to unhook them????? There are SOOO many wires in there, I cannot even SEE where the CB lines come out . I've removed both turn signals and both side pockets, but the problem is tracing the wires that leave the CB unit (on the right side) to some mysterious connectors (on the left side) buried deep, DEEP in the rats nest of wiring .
:beg: :beg: :beg: I really need to get this out so I can have it working by riding season.
I hate to admit it, but I'm at a loss on how to proceed......

There is a box behind the left turn signal (in that area) that has a whole bunch of wires plugged into it, using 5-pin DIN connectors (same as your headset). The CB is plugged into this box (as is the radio tuner, and headset leads). The plugs have locks on them, so you have to depress the lock before pulling the connectors out. You'll have to fish the unplugged wires through to the CB once they are unplugged. It's a nightmare of wires, but once you've done it once, you get the idea of how it's all stuffed in there, and it won't be so hard getting it back in.

Thanks Admin! I guess I'm lucky that this is the first electrical issue I've had with this 30 year old bike....
