Plugs and plug wires

Postby emt613 » Thu Jan 16, 2014 7:05 pm

Plan on doing regular maintenance here in a few weeks and one of the things on my list is new plugs and wires. Is it possible to get wires at an auto parts store, or do I have to use Honda parts ? Have to believe that OEM wires will not be inexpensive. Any suggestions ? Thanks and stay safe .

You can use standard 7mm copper core automotive plug wires. Go buy a length of them, pull one wire at a time off the bike. Unscrew the caps from the wires, cut the new wire to fit, and screw the caps onto the new wires. Install it, and move to the next one.

I did the Coil Mod to my 83' GL1100.

That is I bought the coils and spark plug wires for a GL1500, from EBAY that included, 3 coils and 6 spark plug wires for about $25.00.

I removed my resister, and wired the coils in direct.

I tested the GL1500 Coils and Spark Plug Wires to make sure they were Good, and all was in good shape with in spec.

I now have a hotter spark than i had, on my 83' GL1100, and it runs very smooth, with good power.

I have found that the GL1500 parts are much better and far more durable, they can take more Heat without failure, same goes for other ignition parts from the GL1500,

I bought the Pulse generators from a GL1500, I will modify them and mount them to my 83' GL1100 when they fail.
