on my 82 and 83 GL1100's I run 130/90-16 on the rears (this gives me about 2 extra millimeters clearance between tire and drive shaft tube) and on the front I run 130/90-18 which fits just fine. both are Dunlop 404's from JP Cycles.

The 82 needs new rubber and I am looking at the Dunlop American Elite tires 130/90-16 rear and 130/80-18 front but more expensive

I have tried the Shinko Tour Master tire and found them to be "less than expected" to get a good feel I had to over pressure the tire 50psi and the tire wore fast and funny (side wear even though pressure was high) think about the tire.
a dunlop 404 will be less than $100 from JP Cycles

Thanks for your advise about the shinko`s-I may also use a kenda kruz 673 tires-when it is time to buy new tire (soon) I will have it figured out-perhaps dunlops 404.

I have searched for good tire that gives performance and feel as well as long life. two I found that work good are the Dunlop 404's and the Bridgestone Spitfires.

I am a toss up between Avon Venom and the new Dunlop American Elite for my next tires. the American Elite is made in USA and I am leaning toward trying them, They are designed for big H/D touring Bikes and should do good on my old and slow Wing.

Goldwing1,
I'm not sure if this makes a diffrence in your tire search or not, or if you have considered the fact that the wheels on an '82 GL1100 are Comcast Wheels while the wheels on "83's are Cast Wheels. I only bring up this point because I'm pretty sure the wheels between the years are not interchangeable. I don't know if wheel widths between the two are the same or not. Something to check before you spend money on a tire size that is not to your liking.
I'm sure you have already figured out that '83 GL1100's utilized a few parts that were unique to that year.

The comstar wheels and the cast aluminum wheels from the 83 are interchangable, i put a set of 83's on my 82aspy ,no problem, just bolted them on. It is a common " upgrade". Rim width is the same. 8-)
Ride safe, Todd

one thing to remember (okay, I forgot to mention) if you mount a 130 to the front you need to remove the fender (tire wont clear the bolts) and reinstall once tire is on. its just an extra step.
