Installing 7 volt regulator

Postby 19GoldWing83 » Wed Feb 26, 2014 10:20 am

I'm getting ready to install my 7 volt regulator on my 83 Interstate, and was wondering if I need to remove the front fairing, can it be done with the fairing in place, or is it best to remove it.
Thanks, Pete.

YOu remove the gauge pod w/o removing the fairing..it's not that hard..getting to the two nuts that hold the pod in place is tricky but very doable 10mm box end will get it....then just the cables and elec and it pops right out
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,

Reassembly might be an issue as those bolts are long and tend to wander. I wound up taking fairing off just to get it back together.

A friend changed mine for me as I "helped" hjim (mostly just stood and watched.

I do not see how it can be done with normal sized and and normal lengh fingers. Taking it off may be ok, but getting it back on - phew -

When you have the pod off if you are a bit confident you should change the light bulbs if you can. Sucks to have that off then burn out a bulb. lol

The install was a success, it was way easier just taking off the windshield, not the whole fairing. Thanks for all the input! Going to replace the bulbs while everything is off.
Pete.
