Ignition

Postby cygmark » Tue May 11, 2010 1:13 am

I have a 81' interstate gl1100, how do i test if the ignition is good, if its not a dud, when i turn the key to "on" only the acc fuse gets power when i check with my test light no other fuse gets any power, can these be taken apart and cleaned? Do I test it with a voltmeter and how?

Thanks in advance for your help...

Josh

The ignition switches do tend to fail after a while. You can take it apart to clean it, or save the hassle, spend $20 at a place like PartsnMore and get a replacement switch.

Of course that's assuming the problem is the switch - it could be a wire or connector between the switch and the fuse...but in all likelihood, it's the switch.
