speedometer problem

Postby sandman2412 » Wed Mar 12, 2014 10:22 am

Speedometer stops moving after i hit 60 MPH. I replaced the speedometer cable already and the previousowner replaced the gauge. I've had the bike for a little over a year. I'm thinking it could be the speedo gear box, but not 100% sure. Any thoughts?

Check the end of the speed cable. The metal connection could be slipping off.Even a little can disconnect the cable end from the drive fork.

Like i mentioned earlier its a brand new cabe, theres nothing wrong with either end of it. Now my next question would be, how much of a pain would it be to rebuild the speed gear box, if its even possible?

Just changed out my gear box a couple of days ago. Had to buy two used ones off ebay cause I didn't know which kind I had. My first choice was wrong, for my year, even though the ebay description was supposed to be for my '77 mode. After tearing it down I found out the one received was a later model than mine. On my '77 it was really easy to do. Start to finish was about 30 minutes.
