coil/resistor

Postby BikerBuck » Thu Mar 20, 2014 6:57 am

Bike is a 83 1100a. PO replaced oem coils with high output Dyna coils. These are marked as 3 ohm coils. Original resistor was also left in series with these coils. Is this overkill? My understanding is oem coils had a primary resistance of .4 ohm and the resistor increased that to 3-4 ohms. Up for discussion.

If I recall correctly the Dyna 3 ohm coils don't require a resistor at all. Yes, overkill.

Thanks for reply Dingdong. I had put simeral coils on my Suzuki 30 years ago but my memory was a bit foggy.
