First 'Wing-1980 GL1100 project

Postby The_Tinker » Fri Mar 28, 2014 10:12 am

I got this 'Wing from a friend who was going to get it back on the road but then decided he didn't want to go on with it. I've been wanting one like this for a while so I took it off his hands. I am still looking at option for what I want to do with it but I'm thinking I'll leave the fairing and bags off. That means I need to get a headlight back on.

It starts but doesn't stay running after it warms up so it may be a bit of a project. Any input is appreciated.

Micah

This is the bike when I got it.

Check your fuel filter and spark plugs. You could run a half can of seafoam thru it , also, this might help to smooth it out.
How is the choke operating?
Also check and make sure gas cap vents are open and clean.
Try and get her at least running smooth, then you can delve deeper and see what all is going on. Regards, Johnyy

Thanks guys! Gives me a few more things to go over. It will probably a rather slow process but hopefully I can have it on the road before too long.

Keep us informed on your progress, although frustrating at times, redoing an 1980 Goldwing can be rewarding. I had good luck with mine after 2 years of rebuilding. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11420 One of the better posts on this subject of rebuilding is: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15198&start=150 Good luck!
