Carb issue when under load

Postby jasonm » Sat Mar 29, 2014 10:01 pm

I just rebuilt and synced the carbs on a 1982 1100 goldwing. It idles perfect and starts perfect. Took it out for a ride and takes off great but add half throttle and it wants to lay down on me and thats going through all the gears. I adjusted mixture screws out 11/2 turns then went to 3 turns and no change. Any help or suggestions would be great.

Thanks,
Jason

That's generally a fuel issue. If it runs great, but under load dies, it's usually because there is a restriction limiting the amount of fuel that can be delivered. Being that you just rebuilt the carbs, it could also be a mixture issue of some kind. If you have the choke on, does the same thing happen?

It wasn't trying to die it was just laying down between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle then it would pick back up. I did find the issue though, it was the jet needle. In the rebuild kit I bought the needles were bigger than the ones the carbs had in it, so I put the old ones back in and it runs perfect.

I never even thought about them sending me different size needles with the kit. Just something to remember down the road if I ever do it again. My issue is if your gonna send me bigger needles please send the jets with them.

Thanks for the reply and maybe down the road this will help somebody else.
