LED conversion
I am in the process of converting to LED bulbs on my 83 1100. Did the research and found some good bulbs. Now I need some advice on converting the turn signal relay to an electronic type. Is there a direct replacement or do I need to wire something in? The turn signals don't flash correctly with the LED bulbs. (To fast)

Re: LED conversion
Any electronic automotive flasher will work, I used one from NAPA on my GL1100. The original is held in place with a thick rubber band, I just stretched it around the new flasher to hold it in place. There are three wires up there with connectors that plug onto the flasher terminals. One is power, one goes to the lights, and the other (green) is ground. You can put a two-terminal flasher in as well, just leave the ground wire not connected. I find three-terminal flashers tend to work better on bikes.

Did you make jumpers for it or remove the original plug?

Re: LED conversion
Neither. The existing wires (they are separate wires, not a plug) will plug directly into a standard automotive flasher.larson1981 wrote:Did you make jumpers for it or remove the original plug?

Re: LED conversion
If you are careful in removing the connectors from within the plug you will find that you can take the connector and slide then onto the correct terminal on the bottom of the flasher.

So let us know what bulbs you used and where they went.

Re: LED conversion
That would be great. I am trying to put together a comprehensive list of LEDs for 1100 owners to submit to the Admin so anyone wanting to do this can save the time it takes to do the extensive research it took to make our choices. There are a lot of LEDs out there, and not all are good ones. I wasted a little money finding this out.larson1981 wrote:No problem. When I am done. (Should be in a couple of days). Below is the flasher I used. It was $11 at a chain in my area called Advanced Auto. Very easy install, and fit into the round rubber holder just right. When I first installed it, there were only 2 wires hooked to the original, so I hadn't hooked up the ground to it, and it didn't work. I did find a ground with a terminal that was hidden a bit, and hooked it up. Just in case yours may be out of sight too.
