lost my electic's

Postby Brian N » Thu Apr 17, 2014 7:32 pm

Hello, I own a 1983 gl 1100. went to start it the other day with a full charged battery, It tried to start then stopped . went to try it again and all electric to the bike is gone, except the radio will come on. I have no lights ,neutral lite, horn...everything is dead. Any ideas? was thinking possibly a bad solenoid? Oh, and as far as I can see all fuses are ok including the main fuse.

How worn is the ignition switch, does the key move around easily. Do fuses look good or did you use a meter to check, don't always go out in the middle. Try removing and reinserting all the relays.

Loose battery terminal? Bad/corroded ground cable?
Use a multimeter to follow the voltage from the battery to both sides of the fuse and solinoid . Is the plug in connection on the solinoid clean and tight?
That should keep you busy for an hour or two 8-)

Ride safe, Todd
Over night campers welcome
