Can an 1981 GL1100 head fit a 1983 GL1100?

I looked up the OEM part numbers for 81 and 83 head assy, they are the same.In the honda service manual gives info on a single head, not different years.I would say 99% yes.

Yes you can, an 1100 is an 1100. Bolt it on and ride it like you stole it. 8-)

My fuzzy memory says they are a bolt on, but the 83 1100 actually had a different shaped intake valve. I think the early years were flat and the 83 had a slightly dished valve, or visa versa. Look up Honda valve part numbers an 83 were different. If anything with an older engine it is probably better as it would give a modest push in compression, however it may cause a slight difference from side-to-side if you swap just one side.. You should be able to synch okay to compensate.

Thanks ekvh,
I am going to look at the two heads right now. Think I will try one head now and if it causes no problems maybe I will do the other side to match. I will just have to try it and see.

Thanks for the info.

Just for everyone's information. I had stripped a bolt and broke another on the left hand side. So as per everyone's input, I went ahead and bolted on the 81 heads. I debated whether to us head sealant or not and finally decided to put the head gaskets on dry. Long story short, my bike has never ran so well. It used to smoke bad when it sat for a while, now there is no smoke at all. It runs real smooth, lots of power does not overheat and no leaking head gaskets. So, I guess you can put 81 heads on an 83. Thanks for all the responses.
