Welcome to the site. This is a pretty good one. Sometimes they might ask for a little more info to help you with a problem, but people on here will help until it gets fixed.

You say the speedo jumps all over, and that the cable is new. Did you put the cable on, or did the PO tell you it was new? If you were to search this forum for "speedometer" you will find some answers on this topic that have already been tackled. But a sometimes the problem is with the sending unit at the wheel, sometimes with the cable, and sometimes with the speedometer itself. I would start at the bottom and work my way up, but a search may save you some time by pointing you in a more direct route.

Keep us posted.

This could be worn speedometer drive tangs in the front wheel hub as well. They will slip and grab intermittently, causing the speedometer to jump around.

Speaking of Speedometer drive unit, where is the best place to purchase a new one as well as the speedometer cable housing and cable? Are there other Honda bike models that can be interchanged with an 83 GL1100i?
My speedo drive tang broke, so i guess i get to learn about front wheel removal and figured i would take advantage of brake calipers being off and replace the brake pads as well

The same speedo drive was used on all 1100s and still available as a OEM part as of last year. I believe I ordered mine from Honddirectline.com.
