83 gl1100 front tire removal!!

Postby scooter123 » Mon Apr 21, 2014 5:18 pm

Well since I need a new tire in the front of the new bike I decided to remove the front tire today....boy it was a pain!!!
Im so use to working on the old cb750's......very easy to remove.....this bike not so much.

I had trouble making enough room after removing the callipers to get the calliper bracket off to give me room to pull the tire out.....after a bit of fandangeling I got it!!

Anyone care to shed some light on the easiest way this is to be done without it being a struggle??

Thanks
roger

I am out of town so I can't go look at mine right now but you don't need to take the calipers all of the way off. There is one bolt you take out and loosen another and then just swing it up out of the way. Then it is just loosen the punch bolts and remove the axel and the wheel drops out. Mine has the added complexity of rotor covers.

The caliper brackets are in the way to remove the wheel, so they need to be moved or removed - I always just removed them, which let me get access to clean things out while I was in there.

See: How to remove and reinstall your front wheel
