Brake clean won't hurt but I'm not sure that I would take a chance on just flushing. You really want to get inside the master & clean out any crystallized fluid that may block ports. Brakes are way too important to guess at or do partial work on. Take the master apart, give it a good cleaning & get a rebuild kit if the rubbers look deteriorated. Some Seafoam in the tank may help with that bog once you get it out & riding.

My 83 bogged down too.First try it with the gas cap loose.if that won't help, remove the air cleaner, start the bike and with a mirror in the plenum look at each slide as you rap the throttle. Each one should bounce up.One of mine was stuck shut.

Thanks so much for the great help!! I will do all those things as soon as I get a chance my #1 SON is graduating from college rotc May 10th were having big get together with family so my beautiful wife of 36 years has me in clean up mode, I'm having to depart with a lot of my good junk, I want the gold wing to be top priority oh well. Went to harbor freight picked up one of those sonic cleaners if need to do carbs. got another question when i turn on the key to acs i have 12.9 volts when i put in start it goes to 10.7. Could that be bad connection on ground wire?, it will start ok and run but voltage will only go to 12.9. Read on one of h-t-a to check yellow wires one leg on plug melted pretty good had to really pry on to get loose hope the stator is not damaged. Thanks again for the help!!!!

It depends on where your measuring the volts. The best Is directly across BOTH battery lugs,Not to the frame and a switched wire.
When you turn on the key there should be a voltage drop. The bike draws about 12 amp.A voltage drop that far at the battery indicates a problem.Do clean all the connections and have the battery load tested.
Remove or repair those 3 yellow wire connections and inspect the big plug that feeds the regulator module. It has the 3 yellow wires too.

As you posted more and more about electrical system questions and stuff, it became apparent that you know a bunch about working on bikes/cars. But I just wanted to put out a bit of encouragement: I live at the novice level, and successfully took on the moderately challenging task of rebuilding my rear master cylinder (83 1100i) last weekend. It was the directions given in the how-to section of this site that really made it possible. I ended up buying a MityVac, dot-3, and brake cleaner from Amazon, and a rebuild kit from eBay. It was a bit tough to do alone, since the fronts and rears are linked and bleeding/flushing draws from the rear reservoir, but I got it all replaced. I wasn't locked up or anything, but the rubber boot was corroded and wouldn't create a vacuum for draw in my rears. Even so, there was plenty of gunk in that aster cylinder (pretty surprising just how much). Felt good to do the whole project myself, and get the bike back on the road! You can do it, and you'll be happy you did.
